Bayo Adelabu aka Penkelemesi is the current Governor of Oyo State and unlike many politicians, Adelabu was unknown to many in the political arena until the build up to the 2019 general elections.

Before venturing into politics, he was a top figure in the corporate world. He previously held the position of the Deputy Governor for Operations, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Bayo Adelabu’s Biography, Family and Education

Adebayo Adekola Adelabu was born in September 28th, 1970 to the popular Adelabu family of Ibadan. His father was Aderibigbe Adelabu while his grandfather was Adegoke Adelabu (Penkelemesi).

He had his primary and secondary education at Ibadan. He is an alumnus of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) where he bagged a First Class Degree in Accounting. He is a Fellow of ICAN and CIBN. He has also done professional courses in top notch schools such as Harvard University, Stanford University, University of London and many more.

He worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Standard Chartered Bank, First Bank of Nigeria before he got appointed by Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as the Deputy Governor, Operations for CBN. He was appointed in the year 2014.

Bayo Adelabu is well read and this made him so qualified for the position of the Governor of Oyo State. His rich work experience also made a big difference amongst all other candidates.

When it comes to Adebayo Adelabu’s wife, very little is known about her but if Adelabu wins the Oyo gubernatorial elections, she would become the First Lady of Oyo State.

Bayo Adelabu’s Hotels, Business and Net Worth

Before making his intention known to run for the Oyo State Governorship position, he had different businesses he had setup in the city of Ibadan. He is the owner of Bayse One Hotels and Western Plus Hotels. He is also the owner of Bayse One Farms.

He is currently worth $30 million dollars.

Bayo Adelabu APC and Political Life

He is a member of All Progressive Congress (APC). He left the public service in 2018 after his stint at Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). He declared his interest in the Oyo State Governor’s position in June, 2018 when he picked his APC’s governorship aspirant form. He won the APC governorship primaries in September, 2018 which was three months after he made his intentions known. He won the Oyo state governorship election in 2019.

In order to help out the people of Oyo State, Bayo Adelabu Foundation was created. It is located in Jericho, Ibadan.
